House Leadership, OJK, and Danantara Step In as IHSG Plunges Amid Market Manipulation Allegations

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, along with leadership representatives from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Management Agency Danantara, paid a visit to the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) building in Jakarta.

The high-level meeting was convened in response to the recent sharp plunge in the Indonesian Composite Index (IHSG) and growing allegations of market manipulation affecting major listed equities.

During the visit, officials addressed the heightened volatility sweeping across the domestic capital market, which has triggered widespread concerns among retail and institutional investors alike. Authorities emphasized the urgent need to preserve market integrity, maintain investor confidence, and ensure transparent trading mechanisms across all listed instruments.

Speaking at the exchange, House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad underscored that legislative oversight and regulatory interventions will be tightened to mitigate abnormal trading patterns. Meanwhile, representatives from OJK and Danantara reaffirmed their commitment to conducting thorough investigations into potential market irregularities, assuring the public that robust measures are being implemented to stabilize the capital market ecosystem.

The sudden drop in the IHSG index follows heightened volatility across major blue-chip equities, including top banking and energy sector stocks, which experienced heavy selling pressure in recent trading sessions. Market analysts attribute part of the instability to rumors of targeted dumping and coordinated trading behavior, prompting regulators to examine order book activities for potential market abuse or price manipulation violations.

In response to the market stress, OJK and market operators have reiterated their readiness to enforce trading halt protocols if extreme volatility thresholds are breached. Furthermore, Danantara’s active engagement highlights the government’s strategic initiative to utilize sovereign investment management frameworks to bolster market liquidity and restore stability during periods of acute financial uncertainty.
